Demand Care-First Solutions

Email the board

On September 27, the Board of Supervisors will vote on a motion that would look into creating a new mental health jail. This is in response to the inhumane conditions and massive overcrowding in the Inmate Reception Center (IRC) that is part of Men’s Central Jail.

Building a locked medical treatment facility to house people experiencing mental health crises and awaiting to be processed at the IRC is an irresponsible approach to resolving a problem that already has an evidence-based, care-first solution.

Join us together with our partners at JusticeLA in demanding the Board of Supervisors reject this ill-informed proposal—and to instead, increase funding for diversion to community-based mental healthcare.
