(timeline graphic to accompany)

The LA County Budget for 2023-24 comes in at nearly $43 billion, making it the largest economy in the United States, and the 55th largest economy in the world.

  • January: Each County Department submits its budget requests to the County CEO
    • The CEO evaluates and makes recommendations to the Board based on these submissions.

  • Mid-April: The CEO submits the Recommended Budget to the Board

  • May: The Board holds public hearings to discuss the Recommended Budget, allowing stakeholders like community members and County department heads to weigh in.

  • June: The CEO presents, and the Board approves, the Adopted Budget, which is the final budget for the fiscal year ahead.

  • October: The Supplemental Budget is released, which incorporates state and Federal monies.
