Check out these three important features of our ongoing budget advocacy work from the media these past two weeks! 

Our own Megan Castillo, Manager for Policy and Advocacy of La Defensa, and Coalition Coordinator for the Re-Imagine LA Coalition, was featured on the groundbreaking grassroots program, Move the Crowd (KPFK archives), gave impactful comment and budget analysis quoted by the 📰 LA Times last week, and provided impactful remarks at an important budget advocacy rally hosted by our beloved partner, The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC)You can watch the recap of the TLC rally and read more about their TGI+ Liberation budget demands here

Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we also share a recap of our team’s recent participation in the Vera Institute of Justice’s Alternatives to Incarceration.

This includes what programs and services are prioritized for Measure J (also known as Care First) funding.  The implementation process includes community engagement where the public gets to voice what matters to us, having a say in what gets recommended for the Board’s approval.

Despite a clear voter mandate to invest $900 million annually in affordable housing, good-paying jobs and mental health, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors and County CEO have only invested 21% of this amount in community services to date.

Our communities are struggling and can’t tolerate any more delays. We need direct investment and services now.
